Watching Books – March 2024

Hi guys, I’m so sorry for being so late, but I’m finally here with the March latest news about books and movies and tv shows adaptations. We have a lot of exciting news, and a lot to talk about, so grab something to drink and to eat, cause we’re going to have fun.
Let’s get started!

  • The very first news is a really exciting one: we have the first cast news about the We Were Liars TV series based on the book by E. Lockhart. The Amazon project will star Candice King (The Vampire Diaries, After We Collided), Mamie Gummer (True Detective, Ricki and The Flash) and Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession, Station Eleven). Gummer will play Carrie Sinclair, the eldest daughter, FitzGerald will play Penny Sinclair and King will play Bess Sinclair, the youngest of the sisters.

  • The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty will become a TV show. Production company FlipNarrative wants to develop it as a multi-season TV series and as a gaming platform. The book follows a retired pirate, who has to get the crew back together for one last adventure. It seems really interesting.

  • A series adaptation of the Harry Hole book series by Jo Nesbø will be adapted by Netflix. It will be directed by Øystein Karlsen (Exit) and it will follow detective Harry Hole, who’s just been abandoned by his girlfriend and has to partner with an unlikely partner to investigate the murder of a woman.

  • Jessica Biel (Playing for Keeps, Truth abheartstoout Emanuel) will produce and star in the Peacock series The Good Daughter based on the thriller book by Karen Slaughter. The miniseries will follow two sisters trying to get their life together after they were fractured by a single night of violence some time before. It seems very chilling.

  • Amazing news, we came to know that Heartsopper season 3, based on the comics by Alice Oseman, will come out on Netflix in October of this year. It’s a lovely news, and we all can’t wait for it.

heartstopper

  • Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first images of the adaptation of the book The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan, in which Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) also stars.

  • Wonderful news, at least for me: Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country, The Crown) is in talks to star in Luca Guadagnino’s (Call Be By Your Name, Bones and All) new movie, based on the novel Separate Rooms by Pier Vittorio Tondelli. The story follows an Italian writer in his thirties that decides to go to Munich, his late boyfriend’s hometown. Listen, we’re gonna cry, we all collectively remember the Visions of Gideon sequence in Call Me By Your Name, we know what Luca can do, let’s just be ready.

  • Universal TV has acquired the rights of the romance series Rebel Blue Ranch by Lyla Sage, the first book being Done and Dusted. Each book follows a different couple, but they all have in common that they are small town romances. I’m always a big fan of these types of shows and books, so I can’t wait to know more.

done and dusted

  • This month we also had the first trailer for the film adaptation of John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down. It seems really nice, and the movie will debut on Max on the 2nd of May. You can watch the trailer here

Okay guys, this is all for this month, I can’t wait to know which one was your favourite news, I will talk to you soon.

A Bunch of Bookish Reviews #9

Hey Readers! Since I read a couple of interesting novels in the past weeks, I thought it would be a great idea to give you some personal opinions about them! Here you will find the reviews of Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel and Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. Hope you will enjoy reading about them!

Title: Sea of Tranquility

Author: Emily St. John Mandel

Synopsis (from Goodreads): Edwin St. Andrew is eighteen years old when he crosses the Atlantic by steamship, exiled from polite society following an ill-conceived diatribe at a dinner party. He enters the forest, spellbound by the beauty of the Canadian wilderness, and suddenly hears the notes of a violin echoing in an airship terminal–an experience that shocks him to his core.
Two centuries later a famous writer named Olive Llewellyn is on a book tour. She’s traveling all over Earth, but her home is the second moon colony, a place of white stone, spired towers, and artificial beauty. Within the text of Olive’s best-selling pandemic novel lies a strange passage: a man plays his violin for change in the echoing corridor of an airship terminal as the trees of a forest rise around him.
When Gaspery-Jacques Roberts, a detective in the black-skied Night City, is hired to investigate an anomaly in the North American wilderness, he uncovers a series of lives upended: The exiled son of an earl driven to madness, a writer trapped far from home as a pandemic ravages Earth, and a childhood friend from the Night City who, like Gaspery himself, has glimpsed the chance to do something extraordinary that will disrupt the timeline of the universe.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

This book was so amazing and I so enjoyed reading it! It was gifted to me by a friend and I decided to give it a try some days before the end of 2023. Little I knew it would end up in my Top 10 of my favourite books of that year and here I’ll tell you why.
First thing first, the plot was structured in a very cool way. Each story started from the beginning and then it was interrupted at some point so the next one could begin. It reminded me so much of one of my all-time favourite novels: Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, that has a structure of a Russian doll (and if you haven’t read it I strongly suggest it to you). I felt really captivated while reading it and this structure gives the perfect pace to enjoy every single chapter. I also enjoyed the characters and their stories, it was interesting reading about their different points of view and how they experienced the main event that surrounds their lives.
The writing style was very fluent and it made me enjoy the book even more. Everything was explained very easily and the author made me understand all that happened. And what blew my mind was how every single piece fell into place in the end. How it was done was amazing and even if I saw it coming, I still loved it.
The only complaint I have regards a single thing that I didn’t appreciate because in my opinion it could have been developed better, but since it is part of a huge spoiler of the book, I prefer to not talk about it. Anyway, apart from that, I really suggest you this book because it deserves everything.

Title: Radio Silence

Author: Alice Oseman

Synopsis (from Goodreads): Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying. Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As. You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl. They don’t. They make a podcast. In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year.
Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Before I started reading this book I knew it was still part of the Heartstopper universe (because, duh, Aled is everywhere in the comics) but I didn’t know it would be full of references and allusions from Solitaire. And that’s probably one of the main reasons why I really enjoyed reading this book.
Another main reason why I liked it is for sure Alice Oseman’s writing style. The writing style is definitely one of my favourites, it’s never heavy or boring and every aspect of life and its dark sides is explored with such respect and delicacy that it makes my eyes tear up. Aled’s story is not an easy one and the topics that Oseman decides to deal with are important ones and I wish I had read this book sooner. Don’t get me wrong, I went to Uni, I enjoyed that period of time, but before going there I wished I had the chance to read this story because it would have made me realise many things.
Going back to Aled and Frances’ stories, I really enjoyed reading about these characters and finally understanding more about Aled’s life. I had never met Frances and it was a pleasure to get to know her and I really hope that Oseman will find a way to make her appear in the last volume of the comic.
I think this book has a lot of food for thought and definitely a lot of important messages for all the young people out there and that’s why this story has become one of my favourites by this author. If you still haven’t picked it up, please do yourself a favour and give it a try.

So these were my opinions about these two books! If you would like to let me know your own thoughts about what I said or you would like to talk about these novels, just leave a comment down below! Thanks for reading.

WWWednesday #19

Hey Readers! Welcome back to my monthly update about the books I’ve read and the ones I’d like to read next. I’m really happy about how my Summer is going at the moment, finally I had the chance to read some more books than usual and I hope I will get to many more before Autumn! Let’s see how my TBR is going.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston and I’m really enjoying it! I just love this story and the romance, they are so well done. I’m madly in love with both Alex and Henry and I can’t believe I’ve waited so much to finally approach this book. I must admit that the movie adaptation did help me pick this novel up and I’m so glad for it. I’m almost done with my reading, I’m about 80% done with it and I think I’ll finish reading it today. I can’t wait to see how everything will wrap up, I’m not ready.

What did you recently finish reading?

The latest books I’ve read were an Italian novel and a graphic novel.
The first one is Poverina by Chiara Galeazzi, an autobiographical book about the author’s experience in hospital after she gets a stroke. The author talks about her experience in a funny and light way and I was giggling all the time about how she told what was happening daily. It is indeed a light read, but it surely makes you think a lot, too, and the author is very good in balancing these two aspects in her novel.
The graphic novel I read was the third volume of Heartstopper. It’s almost meaningless telling you that I’ve read this book because of the second series that recently came out, but that’s the main reason. I will be repetitive, but this series (both the books and the TV adaptation) is SO good and lovely, it’s just the perfect example of a comfort series and after watching it I couldn’t miss the chance to re-read the third volume. I just can’t get enough of these characters.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Okay, so, hear me out. Last month I said I would have started Kingdom of Ash right after Tower of Dawn. I tried my best but my chaotic mind made me change idea a couple of times and as you can see by the first two questions my TBR changed a lot *insert clown emoji*. So, now I’m here with a full plan for the rest of the month of August: since Kingdom of Ash is pretty long, I’ve decided to divide it into chunks of chapters to read each day from today until the end of the month. This will help me a lot and I won’t get overwhelmed by its hugeness.
Also, when I have some spare time, before the end of August, I’d like to start reading the first volumes of the famous manga and anime Evangelion. My boyfriend is a fan of both of them and convinced me to try reading the manga, so I think I’ll give it a chance and see if it’s my cup of tea or not.

So, this was my WWWednesday, hope you enjoyed it! If you would like to let me know your answers to these questions, please leave them in a comment down below. Thanks for reading!

Watching Books – May 2023

Hey guys, May has come to an end, and that means it is time to see which bookish adaptations we have collected this month. We have quite the news to go through, from movies to tv shows, to books being optioned. Let’s see what this month had to offer, and let’s get started.

  • First news, Theo James (Divergent, The White Lotus) will star in the adaptation of the short story “The Monkey” by Stephen King. The movie will follow twin brothers Han and Bill, who find an old monkey belonging to their father in the attic. A series of deaths start to happen then around them. King is a master in the horror genre, so this will be a very anticipated movie for the lovers of this genre.

  • Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Kingsman) and Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak, Loki) will star in another Stephen King’s adaptation, and this time we’re talking about “The Life of Chuck”. The movie will be directed by Mike Flanagan. This one follows Charles Krantz, and his life in reverse, from his death caused by a brain tumor, back to his childhood in a haunted house.

  • We have a release date for the new season of “Good Omens”, based on the books by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The second season will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 28th. The opening title sequence has been published on Youtube by Amazon and you can watch it here.

good omens2

  • We also have the trailer for the seventh season of “Outlander”, based on the popular books by Diana Gabaldon. You can watch it here.
  • My favourite news of the month is that we have the official poster for the “Red, White and Royal Blue” movie that will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 11th. It is of course the adaptation of the well-beloved novel by Casey McQuiston. I can’t wait to watch it, it seems quite well done.

red white poster2

  • Another news that I love, since I really enjoyed the first season, is that the second season of “The Wheel of Time” will debut also on Amazon Prime Video, this time on September 1st. We also have some first look pictures and they seem amazing.

  • Season 5 of “The Witcher”, based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, has already been confirmed. Season 3 has yet to air, but Netflix is ahead of their game, and already confirmed season 5. Let’s see how it will turn out. As you may know, season 3 will be the last with Henry Cavill as Geralt.

the witcher1

  • We have a first look at the upcoming season 2 of “Heartstopper”, based on the graphic novel by Alice Oseman. The series will premiere on Netflix on August 3rd. I can’t wait to meet these characters again, infinite heart eyes emojis here.

  • Hasan Minhaj has joined th cast of the “It Ends With Us” adaptation, based on the famous book by Colleen Hoover. He will play Marshall, Lily’s brother-in-law and a very successful tech entrepreneur.

  • The last news for this month is that we have the first trailer for the movie based on the novel “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker. The trailer, that you can watch here seems very moving and interesting. The film will be released on December 25th in theatres.

Okay guys, these are all the news I’ve gathered for this month, let me know your favourite one, and what you’re mostly anticipating.
Thanks for reading,

My Favourite Books of Every Month (so far) – 2020 Edition

Hey everyone! The end of the year is almost around the corner (thank God, 2020 has been terrible) and for this reason I decided to do a little recap of the books I read this year, in order to choose my favourite novel for each month. I did the same article in 2019, if you would like to take a look at it, I will leave you the link here. Now let’s start!

January

2020 couldn’t have started better than that, because our book club pick for that month was “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid and OMG, this novel was so amazing! I really loved the story, and I would so like to re-read it (that it’s quite strange for me, because I usually don’t do that), it made me cry so much and also root for Evelyn all the time. She is such a great character.

February

I didn’t read much during this month, so it’s very easy to pick my favourite read: “The Seven and a Half Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” by Stuart Turton. Even this book was a 5 star read for me, because Turton created such a complicated yet perfect puzzle in which every piece falls into its right place. It’s a masterpiece for me, very original and well done.

March

I don’t really know what to pick, because I would like to choose two books. But between “The Priory of the Orange Tree” by Samantha Shannon and “The Prince and the Dressmaker” by Jen Wang, I think that the second one was definitely my favourite for that month. It’s so heart-warming and cute that you can’t help but adore it.

April

Ok, this is terribly difficult for me, because I think we have a tie. Both “The Shadows Between Us” by Tricia Levenseller and “Solitaire” by Alice Oseman were my favourite books of April. They were amazing for completely different reasons, but still I had such a good time while reading them that I have to put both of them here.

May

Among the books and graphic novels I read that month, I guess that “Check, Please! – Book 2” by Ngozi Ukazu was my favourite one! It was so sad to see this story come to an end; I will terribly miss the main characters and their lives.

June

This month is very very easy for me, because “Artemis Fowl” by Eoin Colfer definitely wins. I re-read the book because the (horrible) movie was coming out and I just wanted to give my mind a little refresh. Then I became obsessed with it and I’m currently reading the entire series, because I so want to know how it will end.

July

Even that month I read a couple of great books and I think that “Normal People” by Sally Rooney was my favourite one. The story was really interesting, and the two main characters were so amazing that I ended up loving them throughout the entire book.

August

In August I started listening to my first audiobooks and I am so grateful for this experience! I listened to our book club pick for that month, “Felix Ever After” by Kacen Callender, and fell in love with it. I think that listening to it made it even more delightful and amazing, not to mention that the story of this novel is really important. I think you should give it a try.

September

Like February, even in September I didn’t read very much. I think I will pick “Aurora Burning” by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, even though it disappointed me a bit. It wasn’t my favourite by these two authors, because it was a bit boring and predictable at times. If you would like to know more about my opinion, check out my article.

October

So, here we are with our last month for this article. October was a rollercoaster of emotions with my readings, and I have a terrible decision to make. My favourites of that month were three books: “Artemis Fowl and the Eternity Code” by Eoin Colfer, “Cemetery Boys” by Aiden Thomas and “Memento” by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. There’s no need to tell you which one among them is the winner. Oh Gosh, The Illuminae Files series is so important to me and even this novella didn’t disappoint me. You can read my full spoiler-free opinions here.

So, these were my favourite books for each month, hope you liked reading about them! I still don’t know which novels will be my favourites for November and December, but I hope to read great and amazing books until the end of the year.
Which were your favourite books of 2020? Let me know in a comment down below! Thanks for reading.

Alice Oseman’s Novellas Reviews

Hey readers! Last month I read Solitaire by Alice Oseman and since I’m up to date with Heartstopper (that I love soooo much), I decided to read the two novellas that are related to this book. They are “This Winter”, a prequel, and “Nick and Charlie”, a sequel. So, without further ado, let’s start!

*Beware, the following reviews contain spoilers from the novellas, Solitaire and Heartstopper*

This Winter

Title: This Winter (Solitaire 0.5)
Author: Alice Oseman
Synopsis (from Goodreads): I used to think that difficult was better than boring, but I know better now… I’m not going to think about the past few months, about Charlie and me, and all of the sad. I’m going to block it all out. Just for today. “Happy Christmas, ” I say. The festive season isn’t always happy for Tori and her brother Charlie. And this year’s going to be harder than most.
Rating: 4/5 stars

This story was a little prequel of the main novel by the author. It introduces and follows the three Spring siblings and what happens to them at Christmas. I’m very interested in knowing more about Charlie and Tori, because they are two of my favourite characters of this fictional world (along with Nick).
I love how Tori is so protective with Charlie and she is always so good with him. After all he went through, Charlie deserves better, but his parents and relatives aren’t the best option right now.
For the first time I could experience what it is like to be in Charlie’s mind. I always read what he says in the graphic novel but I never got the chance to know more about his behaviour and his thoughts, but with this story I started getting a glimpse of them and I did enjoy them.

Nick and Charlie

Title: Nick and Charlie (Solitaire 1.5)
Author: Alice Oseman
Synopsis (from Goodreads): Everyone knows that Nick and Charlie are the perfect couple – that they’re inseparable. But now Nick is leaving for university, and Charlie will be left behind at Sixth Form. Everyone’s asking if they’re staying together, which is a stupid question – they’re ‘Nick and Charlie’, for God’s sake! But as the time to say goodbye gets inevitably closer, both Nick and Charlie question whether their love is strong enough to survive being apart. Or are they delaying the inevitable? Because everyone knows that first loves rarely last forever…
Rating: 4/5 stars

If I got the chance to experience what it was like to be in Charlie’s mind with the previous novella, now I finally know what it is like to be also in Nick’s mind. And I loved it. Even if it’s based on a huge misunderstanding, this novella is the celebration of Charlie and Nick’s love. I can’t help myself but ship them, they are the best couple ever. I can’t stop loving them, whatever they do. Also, I was so happy to see that Charlie, two years after his relationship with Nick, was starting to feel better after his illness. It filled my heart with happiness and joy. This couple will (and has to) last forever and I couldn’t be gladder than that.

These are my opinions about these two novellas, hope you enjoyed reading them! If you would like to let me know your own thoughts about them or you would like to comment what I said here, leave a comment down below. Thank you!

Solitaire by Alice Oseman – Review

Solitaire

Title: Solitaire

Author: Alice Oseman

Synopsis (from Goodreads): In case you’re wondering, this is not a love story. My name is Tori Spring. I like to sleep, and I like to blog. Last year – before all that stuff with Charlie and before I had to face the harsh realities of A-Levels and university applications and the fact that one day I really will have to start talking to people – I had friends. Things were very different, I guess, but that’s all over now. Now there’s Solitaire. And Michael Holden. I don’t know what Solitaire are trying to do, and I don’t care about Michael Holden. I really don’t.

Rating: 4/5 stars

Beware, the following review will contain some spoilers!

I really enjoyed reading this book in the last few days. I didn’t expect the story to be like this, in fact I was quite surprised about what happened in there!

I think that the plot was pretty cool, I started it thinking it was just about Tori, her life, her struggles, her friends, Charlie and Nick and so on. But, in addition to that, there’s also a mystery! Not the kind of guess-who-killed-someone mystery, ok, but it’s still something that needs to be solved. I’m talking about Solitaire’s blog and the many things that happen around Tori. Someone is trying really hard to impress her by doing many different things. And the mind behind was none other than Lucas. It was a bit obvious; I was unsure if it was Michael or him, but in the end, I was 90% sure it was Lucas.

Talking about Michael, I loved him so much. He was so adorable and peculiar, I got along with him immediately. He was a bit funny sometimes, but still lovely. And I was so excited that he and Tori ended up together! They are one of my new favourite ships (even though Nick and Charlie are still in the first place, no doubts).

I have to admit that I started reading this book because I was curious to know more about Nick and Charlie. Heartstopper is such an adorable and amazing graphic novel, it’s quite obvious that I would be so interested in knowing more. Well, their story wasn’t all easy peasy lemon squeezy at all. In the graphic novel the author is still introducing the main challenge that Charlie will face in Solitaire. It was hard to read about his disorder, really hard. I hope he will feel better in the future. And with Tori on his side I’m sure he will have all the help he needs.

Last but not least, Tori. I got along with her really well since the beginning. Maybe because sometimes I feel like her or maybe it’s because of this quarantine, I don’t know, but I felt what she felt for almost the entire book. And her relationship with Michael was adorable. I so loved them!

So, these are my opinions about this book, hope you liked reading it! If you would like to let me know your own thoughts about the novel or you would like to talk about what I said in this review, leave a comment down below! Thanks.

5 Books On My Spring TBR

Hi guys, sadly this is not a good period of time for our country and the world in general, and I don’t really know what to say about it except that for “It will get better, we’ll be alright”. I strongly believe that.
In the meantime please stay safe, wash your hands and stay at home if you can. Let’s do this in the hope of better times.
Apart from that, on a much brighter note, today I want to show you five books that I will surely read this Spring, no doubt about that.
So, without further ado, let’s get into it.
(All the summaries will be taken from Goodreads.)

1. House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J. Maas

house of earth
Synopsis: Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion – one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.

This book is for sure my first priority. I couldn’t get to it as soon as it came out because I had to read my other most anticipated book of the year, “Chain of Gold” by Cassandra Clare, but I’m definitely looking forward to reading Maas’s new release. I love her writing and I adored both “Throne of Glass” and the ACOTAR series. She just writes such addictive books and romances, and this one seems like a perfect mix of both, so yeah, I’m excited.

2. Since We Last Spoke by Brenda Rufener

38338708

Synopsis: When Aggi Frank and Max Granger finally admitted their feelings for each other last December, it felt like love was beautiful and endless… until it wasn’t.
A fatal car accident involving their older siblings throws their lives into sudden chaos. And with a restraining order now in place between the two bitter households, Aggi and Max’s love runs cold. Being together again seems like a distant fantasy, even though they share the same driveway.
Still, Plum Lake is a small town, and staying apart can’t last forever. Aggi and Max eventually reunite at a lake-house party hosted by a mutual friend and break the ice after a year of silence. But just as they begin to rebuild their relationship, the unthinkable happens when Aggi’s little sister, Grace, flees from home after their father spirals into a fit of rage. With a support system of friends close by, Aggi and Max must confront each other and their families in the hopes of mending all the broken pieces.

This book is our March book of the month and I can’t wait to dive into it. It seems like the perfect YA book for me. There’s romance, there’s a lot of angst (I love angsty books, don’t even ask me why) and I can’t wait to read more YA books, they’re just my favourites. Also, I know this book has some serious trigger warnings, so please go check them out before picking it up.
Always check books for trigger warnings, in my opinion it’s the best thing to do for my mental health. I don’t care if they spoil something about the novel, my mental health is more important.

3. Heartstopper: Volume Three by Alice Oseman

heartstopper volume 3

Synopsis: In this volume we’ll see the Heartstopper gang go on a school trip to Paris! Not only are Nick and Charlie navigating a new city, but also telling more people about their relationship AND learning more about the challenges each other are facing in private…
Meanwhile Tao and Elle will face their feelings for each other, Tara and Darcy share more about their relationship origin story, and the teachers supervising the trip seem… rather close…?

I’m so addicted to this graphic novel, it’s just the cutest ever. I can’t even begin to describe how much I’m rooting for these guys and this love.
I’ve read two books by Alice Oseman, and even though they were good, I really don’t get all the hype. Yeah they’re cute, but for me they’re not the best out there – just opinions of course.
But I love this graphic novel, it surely has all the fluff, the romance, and the cuteness I look for in a story. And these boys are the cutest beans ever, confirmed by me.

4. On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Oscar Vuong.

on earth we're briefly gorgeous
Synopsis: On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born — a history whose epicenter is rooted in Vietnam — and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation. At once a witness to the fraught yet undeniable love between a single mother and her son, it is also a brutally honest exploration of race, class, and masculinity. Asking questions central to our American moment, immersed as we are in addiction, violence, and trauma, but undergirded by compassion and tenderness, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is as much about the power of telling one’s own story as it is about the obliterating silence of not being heard.

This is the book that I picked from my (digital) TBR jar for the month of March and I’m so happy about it. I’m honestly growing more and more attracted to adult fiction in this time of my life. Yeah, I’m growing old – 24 is a good age as ever to start to read adult fiction lol, so I can’t wait to read this book.
I love the story that’s set out in the synopsis, give me a good LGBTQ+ book with Call Me By Your Name vibes set partly in the past and I’m sold.I kinda hope to cry, to be honest with you. I know this is weird, but since the beginning of the year I’ve read maybe two books (Chain of Gold and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird) that were able to move me. I love to be moved by books.
Please, writers out there, make me cry, I’m literally asking for it.

5. By The Book by Amanda Sellet

by the book

Synopsis: As a devotee of classic novels, Mary Porter-Malcolm knows all about Mistakes That Have Been Made, especially by impressionable young women. So when a girl at her new high school nearly succumbs to the wiles of a notorious cad, Mary starts compiling the Scoundrel Survival Guide, a rundown of literary types to be avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately, Mary is better at dishing out advice than taking it—and the number one bad boy on her list is terribly debonair. As her best intentions go up in flames, Mary discovers life doesn’t follow the same rules as fiction. If she wants a happy ending IRL, she’ll have to write it herself.

I’m so grateful to have a digital ARC of this book to read, thanks to the publishing house, and I’m over the moon about it. Give me a good contemporary and I will (possibly) be yours. Add a dose of literary references and a quite moody teenager that I’d possibly want to protect or scold according to times, and I’m surely in. If this does not have good banters, I’m out. I really have high hopes.

Okay, guys, these are the five books in my TBR I’m going to read for sure this Spring. Which are some books you’re hoping to read? Let me know in the comments down below.
We’ll talk soon and stay safe!

My I-hope-to-read-these-books-for-real-in-2020 TBR

Hey readers! Sorry for the long title but it’s sadly true: every time I try to create a TBR I end up not following it or I don’t even finish the first book in time (AKA Winter TBR, I’m looking at you). Even in the TBR I created last January I didn’t achieve many books, maybe just one or two.
To avoid this problem I decided to create a TBR Jar, so I won’t buy books and I would read the ones I already have in my room! The idea is great but watch me buy too many books even in 2020.

Now let’s be serious. I made a TBR that is simple and easy to follow with the books or authors I would like to discover this year. Let’s take a look!

Cassandra Clare

A TBR can’t even exist without this woman and the bazillion books she has written. I still have to read four books and 10 novellas, and I hope at least to start reading the TDA series this year. These books are huge, and I already like that.

Leigh Bardugo

I haven’t read anything by this author, but I keep hearing good things about her works. For this reason, I decided that 2020 is the year I’m going to discover the Grishaverse. I hope I won’t get disappointed, mostly by Six of Crows.

Jay Kristoff

I’m a sucker for this author and I still haven’t finished reading Godsgrave and Darkdawn. SHOCKING, I KNOW, but the hype is everywhere, and I know I will finish this series within the end of the year. Not to mention that in May “Aurora Burning”, written with Amie Kaufman, will come out and I already know I will devour this novel.

At least a couple of contemporaries

I’m not the greatest contemporary reader but I quite enjoy them, because I can’t ALWAYS read fantasy, my brain would explode. So, I’d like to read a couple of books from my TBR Jar, like something by Alice Oseman or Karen Mc Manus, but I will find out in the same moment I pick a card from the Jar.

So, these are the books and authors I hope to read this year. I hope you had fun reading this article! If you would like to let me know your own TBR or would like to talk about my choices, let me know leave a comment down here. Thanks!

Insta-Buy Authors

If there’s one thing us book lovers like to do is to buy books. Yes, even when we have a huge TBR at home or a perfectly functioning library in our town. It’s something we just cannot help. But how do we decide which books to buy? Is it the cover? Is it the plot? Sometimes, it’s just the author! Today I’d like to tell you all about my insta-buy authors, the ones that can publish whatever they want and you can bet anything that I’m going to pre-order it and have it shipped to my home without even bothering to read the plot to see if it’s something I might actually be interested in.

Alice Oseman

I just love how she writes YA books, they always have what I’m looking for and they depict such realistic stories! I also really appreciate how this author includes a lot of diverse representation in her books.

Maggie Stiefvater

Maggie can take away my soul and I would thank her for it. I’m not even done with reading all the books she has already published but you can be sure I’m going to buy everything she decides to write from now on.

Rainbow Rowell

Oh sweet Rainbow, I’ll never leave you. I don’t care if Wayward Son was kind of a mess, I just have to buy everything this woman writes.

Cassandra Clare

If it wasn’t already obvious by now, just know that I own every Cassandra Clare’s book ever published. The Shadowhunters world has been with me for basically 10 years now and I don’t see myself leaving it any time soon.

Sarah J. Maas

I loved her two book series, Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses. I enjoy her stories quite a lot and I always find myself getting attached to her characters. I’m really looking forward to see what she has in store next.

Sally Rooney

There’s something about Sally Rooney’s writing that always draws me in. I can’t exactly pinpoint what it is, maybe her wonderful and unique prose, or just the fact that she describes realistic and flawed characters like only few others can. In the years to come I just see myself always buying her books.

That’s all for today, I hope you enjoyed this post. Who are your insta-buy authors?
