Bridgerton Book Tag

Hey there guys, how are you? I’m so excited because a few days ago the second part of Bridgerton season 3 finally dropped, and I’m so happy about it. I may be in the minority but I truly have a soft spot for Penelope and Colin, and this could become one of my favourite seasons of the show. So today I want to do a book tag related to this TV show, the original can be found on “Sin Libros No Soy Nada” channel on Youtube. I’ve done an English translation from Spanish. Let’s get started!

1. Anthony Bridgerton – A book that it’s not from a genre you love, but you ended up liking it anyway.

I would like to say I enjoyed Anthony’s season, but I wouldn’t want to lie, I’m sorry. By the way, a book I really enjoyed that was out of my comfort zone was The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I usually don’t read mystery books or thrillers, but this one blew me away, it was just so good.

the silent patient

2. Benedict Bridgerton – A retelling I would recommend to everybody

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge is a book I read years and years ago, but to this day it is still my favourite Beauty and the Beast retelling ever. It’s dark, and it’s also very compelling to read, I remember really loving it.

cruel beauty

3. Colin Bridgerton – A book that made you feel like you were travelling and that made you discover other worlds

Did you know Colin went to Europe? He might have mentioned it a few times during this season lol. A book that made me discover other worlds was for sure the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, it has a really good fantasy world building and for a good part of the series the characters are travelling, so there’s that.

throne

4. Daphne Bridgerton – A book that’s completely in your comfort zone

Maybe not the coziest answer, but for sure The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It’s one of my favourite books ever for a reason, I love pretentious kids doing crimes, talking about literature and speaking in Latin, what can I do about it?

the secret history

5. Eloise Bridgerton – A book where letters/diaries have a very important part in the story

We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra, a book I loved that’s told mainly through letters exchanged between the two main characters. The writing is lyrical, and I would really recommend it.

we contain multitudes

6. Francesca Bridgerton – A book with a memorable love story and with a slow-burn pacing

Well, let me introduce you to the slow-burn queen of Romance, Mariana Zapata. Her book From Lukov with Love really encompasses all of these characteristics and it’s one of my favourite romances of all time, this book will make you burn, quoting Bridgerton.

from lukov with love

7. Gregory Bridgerton – A book that, despite being criticized, you will read

Nothing comes to my mind in this moment, so I will slightly change the prompt to “a sequel of a book I will read despite not really liking the first one”. I really didn’t enjoy Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare, so I’m still not sure about reading the sequel, but there was something really interesting going on with the romance, so maybe I will pick up the second one, just for the fun of it all.

swordcatcher

8. Hyacinth Bridgerton – The last book you added to your TBR and that you want to read right away

Under the Lupine Moon by A. Knightley is the last book I’ve sent to my best friend saying “we need to read that” and I still stand by that. It comes out in July and I needed it like yesterday.

under the lupine moon

9. Violet Bridgerton – A book you love for the values that it conveys

This is a hard question for me, because I usually don’t read books for their values, but I think Little Women by Louisa May Alcott really portrays a good depiction of how womanhood can encompass very different types of representation, every one beautiful in their own way, so I will use that as an answer.

little women

 10. Lady Danbury – A book with a wonderful story but that it’s not loved by everyone

I simply cannot answer this question, to be honest. I thought about it, but every book will have people who love it and people who didn’t like it, what is underrated to me could be not so underrated for someone else, and so on, so I will skip this one.

 11. Simon Bassett – A book that deals with problems during childhood/adolescence with themes of neglecting/abuse/bullying that I would recommend

I have not read this book, but I’ve seen the movie, and I still think it’s one of the best that deals with these themes, and that’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It’s so delicate and vulnerable, and it always makes me tear up.

the perks of being a wallflower

 12. Penelope Featherington – A book with a wonderful female character that really fascinated me

May be controversial, but she’s still my best girl, so I will say The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. I didn’t love this series, but God if I love Libby Rhodes. I support her rights, and I support her wrongs, I love her to death, that’s just it.

The Atlas Six

Okay guys, this was my take on this tag. I hope you enjoyed it, and please let me know who is your favourite Bridgerton character in the comments down below (and PLEASE don’t spoil season 3, it’s been 48 hours).

Thanks for reading,

The Viscount Who Loved Me – Book Review

Hey everyone,
lately, I’ve started reading the Bridgertons series by Julia Quinn, so here’s my review of The Viscount Who Loved Me, Anthony’s story.

The Viscount Who Loved Me

Title: The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons #2)
Author: Julia Quinn
Synopsis: This time the gossip columnists have it wrong. London’s most elusive bachelor Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry—he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate’s the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams…
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate’s determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself…
Rating: 2 stars

This review may contain very minor spoilers of the plot

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn is the sequel to The Duke and I, and follows Anthony Bridgerton’s story. While it continues to captivate with Quinn’s signature wit, this novel didn’t completely meet my taste, which is quite sad because it gained a lot of popularity, especially thanks to the TV series, and I had quite some expectations. However, I personally rated it two stars because I found the plot too predictable and the characters lacking in depth.

The story focuses on the eldest Bridgerton sibling, as he is determined to find a suitable wife. This leads him to Kate Sheffield, a strong-willed young woman with a sharp tongue and a disdain for his rakish ways. Their banter and undeniable chemistry set the stage for their romance.

The premises are quite good: Anthony’s internal struggles and Kate’s resilience to surrender to her love for him against all her best intentions. Who doesn’t love an enemies-to-lovers story? However, The Viscount Who Loved Me suffers from a very predictable plot and pacing issues. Moreover, the romantic tension between Anthony and Kate is palpable, but the execution felt formulaic, lacking the spark that makes enemies-to-lovers romance novels truly memorable. As a result, their relationship did not resonate as deeply with me as I was seeking a more profound connection between the two main characters. One of my main issues was with Anthony. His character, in particular, felt a bit one-dimensional, and, at times, I couldn’t really stand him.

In the end, while I could appreciate the light-hearted and entertaining aspects of this novel, it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. However, this is just my opinion and many readers loved reading The Viscount Who Loved Me and the Bridgertons series as a whole. So, I think, if you haven’t read it yet, that you should give it a try nonetheless.

The movie is directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood) and Amy Adams (American Hustle, Sharp Object) plays the main role in it.

  • Elliot Page (Juno, The Umbrella Academy) is going to produce an adaptation of the novel The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer. The sci-fi novel is following two boys from enemy countries and the rescue mission they’re going on together. Oh, and love is also involved. It seems really cool.

Watching Books – December 2023

Hi there guys, and welcome to the last Watching Books of 2023. Can you believe we’re already at the end of the year? I for sure can’t, but before January we have one last article where we’ll talk about the newest bookish adaptations, and what we came to know this last month.
Are you ready? Let’s get started.

  • The first news for this month will be a pleasure to many: we have the first photos and the first teaser trailer for the new “House of the Dragon” series, based on the world created by George R.R. Martin. It will come out in Summer 2024, and I bet a lot of people surely can’t wait.

  • The newest internet boyfriend, Tom Blyth (The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Billy The Kid) will star in the adaptation of “A Farewell to Arms”, based on the classic by Ernest Hemingway. His role will be the one of Frederic Henry, a volunteer ambulance driver who falls in love with a nurse during his time in Italy in World War I.

  • The beloved book “Assistant to the Villain” by Hannah Nicole Maehrer will become a TV series. Legendary Television has acquired the rights to the novel. It follows Evie, a girl with financial problems and so eager to help her family that she takes up the role as the assistant to the evilest Villain in all of the land. It’s a hard job, and even harder considering she develops a crush for her boss.

    assistant to the villain

  • My favourite news of the month for sure is the one regarding “Bridgerton” season 3, based of course on the bestselling novels by Julia Quinn. The third season, following my beloved Penelope and Colin, finally has a release date: the first part will come out on May 16th 2024, while the second part will come out on June 13th We also have the first promotional pictures, and they are adorable. I really can’t wait to watch this one.

  • We also have the first poster for the movie “Which Brings Me to You”, based on the book by Steve Almond and Julianna Baggott. The movie will star Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars, The Hating Game) and Nat Wolff (The Intern, Mainstream). It will be released in theatres very soon, on the 19th of January of next year.

    which brings me to you

  • Tommy Dorfman (13 Reasons Why, Jane The Virgin) will direct the movie adaptation of the graphic novel “Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me” by Mariko Takami and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell.
Tamaki is writing the screenplay of the movie. Dorfman describes the movie as “the lovechild of John Hughes and Jamie Babbett with a fresh and honest perspective on love and queer chosen family”. We can’t wait!

  • “Things We Never Got Over” by Lucy Score will become a TV show thanks to Amazon. It will be adapted, and produced, by Amy Rardin, who also worked in The first book follows Naomi, a runaway bride, who comes back to Virginia when her twin sister Tina calls her because she’s in trouble. But Tina steals everything from her, leaving Naomi with her 11-year-old daughter and Knox, a man who doesn’t do relationships, but who is willing to help Naomi. It sounds cute, I can’t wait to see it.

    things we never got over

  • Last news for this month but not least, Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard, The Woman King) will be the one to direct the movie adaptation of the very famous fantasy YA novel Children of Blood and Bone” by Tomi Adeyemi. The final book in the series will come out next year, so it’s a double win.

Okay guys, these were the last bookish adaptations news for the month. Please let me know your favourites in a comment down below, I wish you a happy new year.

If you like this TV Show, then you should really try this book #4

Hey there guys, how are you? I’ve watched some good tv shows lately, so I decided to bring this type of article again, I find it to be really fun, and if maybe you want to read something that it’s really similar to your favourite series, this is the one for you.
Let’s get started!

If you liked A Perfect Story, you should really try The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

This Spanish TV series is everything to me, I had so much fun watching it, and from what I gathered it is also based on a romance book. But I watched it shortly after having read The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren, and I could really see the resemblance. I think it has the same summer vibes, the same fake dating trope, and it delivers a really cute love story just like the series does.

If you liked Bridgerton/Queen Charlotte, you should really try the Girls Meet Duke series by Tessa Dare

Tessa Dare has the magic touch when it comes to historical romances that are funny, faithful to the time period, but also very modern, and that also deal with serious issues. I think for this reason, if you devoured Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, you should really give them a chance. They’re really similar in tone, and everyone, in true romance style, follows a different couple, just like in the TV show.

If you liked Emily in Paris, you should really try Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Pekins

Listen, Anna and The French Kiss is really the YA equivalent of Emily in Paris, I don’t make the rules.
They both have a romance set in the city of love at its core, and a girl finding herself in this magical city.
I get that the book was written a decade ago, and in some instances it might seem outdated, but I had a great fun reading it when I was younger, so I quite recommend reading it if you love the Netflix show.

If you liked Daisy Jones and the Six, you should really try The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes by Elissa R. Sloan

Daisy Jones and the Six is one of my favourite books of all time, and the TV show has suddenly become one of my favourites ever too. Citing Lorde, “all the glamour, and the drama, and the fucking melodrama” really do something to me in terms of a reading experience, and I think that this story is phenomenal.
If you like it, I’m sure you’ll really enjoy The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes. It’s a little darker than Daisy Jones, so I suggest you check the trigger warnings, but it follows a girl group in the 90s and what they had to face to stay on top of the world. It’s really good.

If you liked Love Is Blind, you should try One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, I believe you should just enjoy whatever the hell you want to enjoy, but if you we are to believe in this concept, I would say that Love is Blind is my reality show guilty pleasure. I’m so behind and I still have to catch up on the last season, but I can’t wait. This is a reality show about love at first… conversation, since you are supposed to marry a person you only talked to behind a wall. Wild, I know. In the same fashion, I haven’t read One to Watch (it’s on my TBR), but this book deals with the reality shows world, particularly one where the lack of body diversity is very clear. The main character decides to change that, and so her story begins. I think it could be a great fit.

Okay, guys, these were my recommendations. I hope you enjoyed them, and let me know if you have better choices.

Thanks for reading,

Watching Books – June 2023

Hey guys, we are halfway through the year and we have a lot of bookish adaptations news that came out in the month of June. They’re all very interesting, so without waiting, let’s get started.

  • First news is that“The Lunar Chronicles” by Marissa Meyer will be turned into an animation series. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has signed a deal with Locksmith Animation to produce it. The well-known series is a sci-fi twist on some very famous fairytales, like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Snow White. This will be very interesting for sure.

    cinder

  • The makers of the Netflix series “The Crown” will adapt the novel “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven” by Juno Dawson into a TV Show. Jess Brittain (who has worked on Skins) will work on it. The book, of which the sequel will come out very soon, follows a coven of witches that protects the crown and the country. I can’t wait to read the book and see the TV Show after that.

    her majesty's royal coven

  • One of my favourite news is that we have the first look at the “Red, White & Royal Blue” movie, based on the book by Casey McQuiston. It seems very faithful to the book, which I LOVE, and I can’t honestly wait to see it, I have really high hopes. The movie will debut on Amazon Prime Video on August 11th.

  • We also had a first look at the second season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, based on the trilogy by Jenny Han. We had some pictures, but most of all the teaser trailer debuted and it features a superior version of August by Taylor Swift, I wanted it on Spotify like yesterday. The series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 14th.

  • Speaking of trailers, we also had the one of the movie adaptation of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by Benjamin Alire Sáenz (you can watch it here), another movie I can’t WAIT to see since I loved the book with all of my heart. The movie will be out in theatres on September 8th.

  • The “It Ends with Us” movie, based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, has been put on pause until the end of the Writer’s Strike. The production may reprise later.

it ends with us

  • Tudum”, the yearly Netflix event, gave us the first look at the new season of “Bridgerton”, based on the books by Julia Quinn. I’m a Polin stan account so these pictures blessed me, they changed my life, the lot. I’m so glad we have the Polin season next, I can’t wait.

  • We also have the first trailer for the “One Piece” movie, based on the manga by Eiichirō Oda. I’m no expert, but it seems really cool. It will debut on Netflix on August 31th.

  • We have the first poster and also the release date for “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart”, a seven-part television series based on the book by Holly Ringland. You can also watch the series trailer here (link). It will debut on Amazon Prime Video on August 4th.

the last flowers

  • And last but certainly not least, one of the biggest news for this month is that the “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” series, based on the books by Holly Jackson, has found its protagonists. Emma Myers (Wednesday) will star as Pip and newcomer Zain Iqbal will play Ravi. I really like this casting, I can’t wait to watch it.

Okay guys, these are all the news we have for this month, I hope you enjoy them. Let me know your favourite with a comment down below, if you want.

Talk to you soon,

TV series I’m looking forward to in 2020

It’s the start of a new year and I plan to spend it watching TV series, as you do. When it comes to TV shows I’m a bit obsessed. Apart from my personal favourites, I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting things to watch. Today I thought it could be nice to talk about some of the things I’m most excited to see in 2020. Let’s go!

I’d like to start with shows that actually have a release date, so that I can give you some real information here.

The first one is Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, which is set to premiere on January 16th. The main reason why I’m so interested in this Freeform production is its main actor and creator Josh Thomas, best known for Please Like Me. I simply adore him and I cannot wait to see him in this new project. You can watch the trailer here.

MAEVE PRESS, KAYLA CROMER, JOSH THOMAS, ADAM FAISON

Diary of a Future President is a Disney+ series that’s going to premiere on January 17th. The plot sounds very interesting since it’s about a young girl, Elena, and her dream to become the future president of the United States. The show also includes flash-forwards of a grown-up Elena, played by Gina Rodriguez, as she undertakes her presidential campaign in the future. It sounds empowering and also like a great show. You can watch the trailer here.

Have you guys ever heard of High Fidelity? Well, it’s coming back with a new adaptation and this time the story is set in Brooklyn and Rob is played by none other than Zoë Kravitz. I’m so ready for it. The entire first season will be released on Hulu on February 14th. You can watch a teaser trailer here.

eto_clip_high_fidelity_121919

And then we come to the series I basically know next to nothing about, but this doesn’t stop me from being excited to check them out.

Let’s start with some Netflix productions.

Bridgerton is a 2020 TV series that I’m curious to see for three main reasons. It stars Julie Andrews and Nicola Coughlan. It is set in England during the Regency era. And also, it’s a Shonda Rhimes’s production and if there’s one thing this woman can do is produce shows that can keep me entertained.

Kaos is another Netflix series that seems to have been in the works for ages. Guys, this show might actually see the light in 2020. Netflix itself describes it as “a darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld.” If this doesn’t make you want to watch it, then I don’t know what will.

HBO is making my dreams come true and it’s giving us a Normal People TV series, based on the book with the same name by Sally Rooney. I loved this story and I cannot wait to see it!

Emily in Paris is a show that I’m very curious to check out. It’s created by Darren Star (Sex and The City, Younger) and it stars Lily Collins as Emily, an American girl who is hired by a French marketing firm in Paris.

MV5BMjVmZjc5OGUtNmZkMy00NzRmLWIxOTEtYjhjZTA1MTlmMmVhXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyODg0ODU3MDg@._V1_

Lastly, but definitely not least, I’d like to talk about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier which is a six-episode series expected to be released by Disney+ in late 2020. There are a lot of Marvel productions coming out in the next few years, but this one is probably one of the most exciting for me. I just love these two characters separately, but also when they’re together because I think they work so well on screen. Also, the banter between the actors who play them, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, is great and the two of them never fail to make me laugh.

These are some of the TV series I’m most excited to see in 2020. If you want, you can leave a comment down below and tell me which ones are yours, I’d love to know!
