If you like these singers, then read these books #1

Hey there guys, today I would like to introduce you to a new idea I had, and that is to give you three books to read that I think you might like if you enjoy listening to these artists. I will start with some of my favourite singers of all time, and if you like this format, maybe I will do others in the future.
I will say, buckle up and let’s get started!

Taylor Swift

Galleria 3 Immagini

Of course I had to start with my favourite singer of all time, Taylor Swift. She has such a vast catalogue, that it would be quite reductive to just offer you three books, but I will try for the sake of this article. If you would like more specific recs, I have various articles on this blog where I give a recommendation for every single song of various Taylor’s albums. For this time being, in honour of her career, I decided to split the recs as one for her country era, one for her pop era, and one for her indie folkmore one.
For the country category, what could be better than the Chestnut Spring Series by Elsie Silver? I think this romance series could really well reflect Taylor’s first albums, where romance was a huge part of the narrative. For her pop era, I decided to go with basically anything by Emily Henry, but in particular her book People We Meet on Vacation, it has that energetic and romantic vibe that Taylor’s pop albums tend to have, and a part of this is even set in New York, so win win. And for the folkmore era I decided to go with my favourite classic book of all time, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The moors, the drama of it all, the big emotions, this book has it all. And also, a lot of rain. What better than that to associate with these albums?

Harry Styles

Galleria 3 Immagini (1)

Here we go with another one of my favourite singers of all time. I’ve been a big fan of Harry for years now, I’ve seen him live a bunch of times, and his music really has got me through a lot.
The three books I would like to associate with Harry’s music are The Binding by Bridget Collins, Call Me By your Name by André Aciman and Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
“The Binding” is maybe the less obvious of them all, but in my eyes it really encompasses a lot of Harry’s mellower songs vibes, the imagery is quite beautiful and convoluted, and it reminds me for example of songs like Little Freak. “Call Me By Your Name” is a book I simply had to include because in my eyes it is really tight with Harry’s songs, there’s something about the poetry but at the same time the angst that both convey, that really makes these two pieces of media similar in my eyes. And I think Daisy Jones is quite self-explanatory, right? I mean, we could discuss that Harry is maybe the most rockstar-y pop-star of our time, and his looks and antics really resemble the ones of a 70s band.  That’s just how it is in my eyes.

Hozier

Galleria 3 Immagini (2)

Listen, Hozier is per se maybe one of the best songwriters of our generation, so his lyrics alone are a work of art, but if you would like to associate his wonderful songs with some books, I will give you my recs.
In my eyes Hozier’s music encompasses three big macro-areas of themes/aesthetic and they are literature references, mythology (in particular Greek) and the folkloristic nature feeling of being in the woods with magical creatures. So I have a book for everyone of these categories.
Let’s start with the literature one: what better than a classic dark academia book? The staple of it all? The Secret History by Donna Tartt is the book for you if you enjoy talks of poetry, glory and a mesmerizing writing style. I swear I think about this book on a daily basis and it’s been years since I first read it.
For the mythology area I had of course to go with The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, I think it is a staple in the Greek mythology retellings genre, and I think its lyricism and the way it’s written, with an otherworldly delicacy, really declares it the best in the sector.
And finally, for the folkloristic area, I think the best choice might be Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier, an historical fantasy novel where nature is its own character and the cottagecore vibes are very present and set the tone for the whole story.

Phoebe Bridgers

Galleria 3 Immagini (3)

And last but not least for this article we have a singer that also doubles as my therapist lol. Phoebe Bridgers is one of the best singers/songwriters of our generation, and I think she so well encapsul the struggle of being a woman in her twenties and thirties. For this reason, if you like Phoebe I can only recommend a bunch of books from the “hot girl literature” trend of the last few years:
First and foremost, a book I truly think well encompasses Bridgers’ lyrics is Milk Teeth by Jessica Andrews, a coming-of-age story, a love story and an ode to Europe all in one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would highly recommend it. If you want something more glamorous, I could recommend you Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors. This story is set in New York and it follows a girl in her twenties as she struggles with friendship, love, and a sadness that never seems to go away (like Phoebe perfectly says: “Jesus Christ, I’m so blue all the time”).
And last but not least, I think really resembling some of Phoebe’s earlier stuff, Bunny by Mona Awad is a very fitting choice. It’s something a little bit more unhinged and over the top, with some dark academia vibes and a deep dive into womanhood.

Okay guys, these were my book recs if you like the same artists I listen to. Please let me know your advice and recs, and if you liked this kind of article. I could always do more with other singers.
Thank you for reading and for your time.

Watching Books – September 2022

Hey guys, how are you? This month is literally filled with news about your favourite books turning into movies or tv shows. I’m so happy to report all of them. They are a lot, so let’s get started. Here’s what you need to know this month!

  • The first news for this month is a very cool one, and that is because “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson is becoming a TV Show for the BBC! The series will be divided in six parts, and it will follow Pippa, a girl determined to solve a murder case about a schoolgirl that the police declared close and the culprit certain. Pippa isn’t so sure, so she’ll do whatever she can to prove her theory. We are very excited to watch it!

a good girl's guide

  • The official teaser trailer for the Netflix movie “All Quiet on the Western Front”, based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque, has debuted. You can watch it here. The movie will debut on October 28th.

  • Universal Television will develop the fantasy series “The Heralds of Valdemar” by Brittany Cavallaro. Kit Williamson, the creator of EastSiders, will adapt the series with the author herself. The series follows three teenagers, Vanyel, Talia and Elspeth, who were chosen by fate to protect their realm. It seems quite interesting.

the heralds of valdemar

  • I’m so excited to say this, we finally have the first teaser trailer of the upcoming Disney+ television series on Percy Jackson, based on the books by Rick Riordan. The teaser seems so good, I can’t wait to see more. You can watch it here.
  • Since its debut at Tiff, we also have the first sneak peek of the “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe”, based on the YA novel by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. The teaser shows the first encounter between Ari and Dante and it made me so emotional. You can watch it on the author’s Instagram.
  • And speaking of Tiff, we also got to see the trailer of another movie that premiered at the festival, and that is My Policeman, based on the novel by Bethan Roberts. If you’ve been here for a while, you know I have a soft spot for Harry Styles, it’s no secret, but this movie seems amazing, and I would 100% watch it with or without Harry. The trailer is great and having read the book I can also assure you that it seems very accurate to the novel. It’s so tender, and delicate, and I will stop talking now, or I would go on forever. You can watch it here.

  • Another trailer we got to see this month is the one for the movie “The School for Good and Evil”, based on the novel by Soman Chainani. The movie will debut on October 19th on Netflix.

  • David Dawson (The Last Kingdom, My Policeman) has joined the cast for the TV series based on the thriller book “The Burning Girls” by C.J. Tudor. It follows a Reverend and his daughter in a small town filled with the community’s dark secrets. Can’t wait to see it, I love David Dawson.
  • Another Netflix trailer: “From Scratch”, based on the memoir by Tembi Locke, will debut on the streaming platform on October 21st. The trailer is here, and it seems very good.

  • “Silver” by Kerstin Gier will become a movie thanks to Prime Video and Constantine. The shooting for the film will start in 2023, and the story follows Olivia, a girl who suddenly starts to have strange dreams about four guys in a cemetery doing some esoteric rites. It seems so eerie, can’t wait to know more.

dream a little dream

  • As you all probably know, this month Netflix had its yearly event “Tudum”, and a lot of news were revealed. One of the most important ones regards “Shadow and Bone”, based on the popular fantasy trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. We had a sneak peek of season two, and we are all very excited to meet these characters again.

  • Iron Widow” by Xiran Jay Zhao will become a movie. The story is set in a world invaded by aliens, and the people’s only hope are robots called Chrysalises, with a male and a female pilot to control them. However, as it usually sadly is, there are quite a lot of disparities between the female and male pilots. This seems to be a very feminist story, and very powerful, I can’t wait to read it.

iron widow

• And the last news for this month regards the book “If We Were Villains” by M.L. Rio. This dark academia will be adapted into a TV series by the same producer of “Sex Education”. The novel follows seven actors at an elite college, till something tragic and dark happens. It’s one of the books I’m most excited to read right now, so I can’t wait to watch the show (after having read the book).

if we were villains

Watching Books – June 2022

Guys, how are you? This month is so full of news, I don’t even know where to start. We will have a lot to watch and enjoy in the upcoming months, so let’s get started.

  •  The first news for this month is very special, and it regards the new Disney + Pinocchio adaptation. We have the first trailer for the upcoming movie, and it seems perfect and magical. You can watch it here.

  • We also have a first look into the tv series adaptation of the book Three Women” by Lisa Taddeo. A teaser trailer came out and it seems amazing (link). The tv show will star Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, Big Little Lies), Betty Gilpin (Stuber, The Grudge), DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It, Jurassic World Domination) and Gabrielle Creevy (15 Days).

  • Of course, one of the most exciting news of the month, at least for me, is that we have the names of the full cast for the upcoming Red, White & Royal Bluemovie based on the novel by Casey McQuiston. Taylor Zakhar Perez (The Kissing Booth 2) will play Alex, and Nicholas Galitzine (Handsome Devil) will play Henry. In addition, Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) will play Ellen, the President of the United States. Clifton Collins Jr (Star Trek), Stephen Fry (Peter’s Friends), Sarah Shahi (The L Word), Rachel Hilson (Love, Victor), Ellie Bamber (Nocturnal Animals), Aneesh Sheth (Jessica Jones), Polo Morín (El Bienamado), Ahmed Elhaj (Grantchester) and Akshaye Khanna (Tees Maar Khan) will also have parts in the movie.

  • The first teaser for the upcoming movie “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, based on the novel by Suzanne Collins has just debuted and it seems so cool, we can’t wait to see it.
We also have some exciting casting news for the project: Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) will play Lucy Gray, Josh Andrés (West Side Story) will play Sejanus Plinth, Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) will play Tigris Snow, and Jason Schwarzman (Marie Antoinette) will play Lucky Flickerman.

  • Another wonderful news is that the romance novel It Happened One Summerby Tessa Bailey has been optioned for a movie, and we couldn’t be more excited. This novel follows Piper, a girl from a wealthy Hollywood family, who is sent to the Pacific Northwest by her family itself to throw some sense into her. There she will meet Brendan, a local fisherman, and you can guess the rest. It seems so cute.

  • We have the first trailer of the new “Persuasion” adaptation, based of course on the novel by Jane Austen. The movie seems so interesting, and the trailer really captures the magic of the book. A must-watch for sure. It will come to Netflix on July 15th.

  • My favourite news of the month is another trailer that dropped out of nowhere, and it honestly kind of broke the internet. We had the first teaser trailer of the movie My Policeman”, based on the book by Bethan Roberts. What can I say? Perfection, in my eyes at least. The movie will debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 4th, and I honestly don’t know how I will survive this movie. Below, I will show you the official poster that also came out this month, what are we even talking about? (No bias here, as you can see, when we talk about Harry Styles).

  • The Spanish Love Deception” by Elena Armas will be turned into a movie thanks to BCDF pictures who has acquired the rights to the novel. The movie will be directed by Peter Hutchings, who also directed “The Hating Game” This romantic story follows Catalina, a girl who needs a date for her sister’s wedding which takes place in Spain. Her colleague Aaron, who she cannot stand, steps in and offers to help her, and the story starts from there.

  • The novel Miss Austenby Gill Hornby is being adapted for TV thanks to Bonnie Productions. It will be a miniseries with a four-hour span, and it will talk about the famous Jane Austen, her life, and her relationship with her sister Cassandra. It also tries to answer the question as to why Cassandra burnt a chunk of love letters written by Jane, and the repercussion of it all.

  • My favourite girl Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Little Women) will star in the Netflix adaptation of “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck. The limited series will be directed and produced by Zoe Kazan (Revolutionary Road, The Big Sick).

  • Another favourite news is that “The No-Show” by Beth O’Leary has been optioned by Bad Wolf TV. The book will hit the TV screens, and we couldn’t be more excited. The novel follows three women, Jane, Miranda, and Siobhan, that find out that each of them is involved with the same man. Joseph Carter didn’t show up for any of their respective Valentine’s Day dates, and that will propel the novel on.

  • Last news for this very full of news month is that we have the name of some actors who joined the Percy Jackson Disney + series cast. Olivea Morton (Better Now) will play Nancy Bobofit, Dior Goodjohn (Glee, Head of the Class) will play Clarisse La Rue, and Charlie Bushnell (Diary of a Future President) will play Luke Castellan.

Okay, there, we have finally come to the conclusion of one of the longest “Watching Books” I’ve done in years (or ever, to be honest). Did you enjoy it? Which news are you most excited about? What piece of media you can’t wait to see? Let me know in the comment section down below.
Thank you so much for reading and see you next time,
