Hey guys, today I’m back with one of my favourite kinds of articles! I really enjoy both books and K-dramas and so that’s why I thought it would be a good idea to try and merge these two passions of mine. I hope this is a chance for people to discover K-dramas, but also just a chance to get some book recommendations.
If you’re curious you can also read other bookish and K-dramas recommendations HERE.
Now let’s get started!
Let me be your knight – I was born for this
They’re both set in the music world and they feature a boyband and someone who isn’t famous but, for a reason or another, ends up in their orbit. Secrets are shared and solid friendships are born thanks to these fateful meetings. Even though these stories might be bit different, I think they still make a good pairing.
Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding – Something Fabulous
So, for this K-drama I wanted an historical fiction book to stay on theme. Nobleman Ryu’s
Wedding is about the arranged wedding of, you guessed it, nobleman Ryu. On the wedding night, he finds out that his bride is actually a man who disguised himself as a woman, more specifically his runaway sister, in order to still have the wedding their families wanted. Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall offers a runaway sister from an arranged marriage as well and even though the brother and groom-to-be don’t get married, they still spend a lot of time together looking for the missing bride and thanks to that they learn that there might be something more between the two.
Thirty-nine – Before Everything
Thirty-nine is about the deep and meaningful friendship that connects three women who come face to face with mortality and saying goodbye. It’s a bittersweet story, but it’s so full of love and the friendship representation is top-notch. I decided to pair this K-drama with Before Everything by Victoria Redel. I haven’t read this novel yet, but from what I could gather it’s about women who have known each other and have been friends for years as well and so that’s why I thought it might be a good fit.
Crazy Love – This Might Get Awkward
Crazy Love is a ride for sure. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to, but I decided to feature it in this article because it includes so many tropes, such as enemies-to-lovers, amnesia, and also office romance. In some ways this story reminded me a lot of the 90s movie While You Were Sleeping and so I thought it could be fitting to pair it with a retelling of said movie, that is This Might Get Awkward by Kara McDowell.
Welcome to wedding hell – You deserve each other
This is probably my most far-fetched pairing, but in my head it makes sense. Welcome to wedding hell is about a couple who has to plan their own wedding, while also managing their very nosy families who always want to have a say in every single matter. This leads to the couple being unhappy and fighting on multiple occasions. I’ve decided to pair this K-drama with the book You deserve each other because it also features a couple who should get married soon. The difference is that at the beginning of this story the two main characters don’t really like each other anymore and they are trying to get out of getting married. Even though they are different, they still revolve around a couple who’s, for better or worse, is planning a wedding and that’s why they might be a good fit together.
That’s all for today, I hope you enjoyed reading this article. Which K-dramas are you currently watching? Have you got any recommendations? I would love to know.
