Bridgerton Book Tag

Hey there guys, how are you? I’m so excited because a few days ago the second part of Bridgerton season 3 finally dropped, and I’m so happy about it. I may be in the minority but I truly have a soft spot for Penelope and Colin, and this could become one of my favourite seasons of the show. So today I want to do a book tag related to this TV show, the original can be found on “Sin Libros No Soy Nada” channel on Youtube. I’ve done an English translation from Spanish. Let’s get started!

1. Anthony Bridgerton – A book that it’s not from a genre you love, but you ended up liking it anyway.

I would like to say I enjoyed Anthony’s season, but I wouldn’t want to lie, I’m sorry. By the way, a book I really enjoyed that was out of my comfort zone was The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I usually don’t read mystery books or thrillers, but this one blew me away, it was just so good.

the silent patient

2. Benedict Bridgerton – A retelling I would recommend to everybody

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge is a book I read years and years ago, but to this day it is still my favourite Beauty and the Beast retelling ever. It’s dark, and it’s also very compelling to read, I remember really loving it.

cruel beauty

3. Colin Bridgerton – A book that made you feel like you were travelling and that made you discover other worlds

Did you know Colin went to Europe? He might have mentioned it a few times during this season lol. A book that made me discover other worlds was for sure the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, it has a really good fantasy world building and for a good part of the series the characters are travelling, so there’s that.

throne

4. Daphne Bridgerton – A book that’s completely in your comfort zone

Maybe not the coziest answer, but for sure The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It’s one of my favourite books ever for a reason, I love pretentious kids doing crimes, talking about literature and speaking in Latin, what can I do about it?

the secret history

5. Eloise Bridgerton – A book where letters/diaries have a very important part in the story

We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra, a book I loved that’s told mainly through letters exchanged between the two main characters. The writing is lyrical, and I would really recommend it.

we contain multitudes

6. Francesca Bridgerton – A book with a memorable love story and with a slow-burn pacing

Well, let me introduce you to the slow-burn queen of Romance, Mariana Zapata. Her book From Lukov with Love really encompasses all of these characteristics and it’s one of my favourite romances of all time, this book will make you burn, quoting Bridgerton.

from lukov with love

7. Gregory Bridgerton – A book that, despite being criticized, you will read

Nothing comes to my mind in this moment, so I will slightly change the prompt to “a sequel of a book I will read despite not really liking the first one”. I really didn’t enjoy Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare, so I’m still not sure about reading the sequel, but there was something really interesting going on with the romance, so maybe I will pick up the second one, just for the fun of it all.

swordcatcher

8. Hyacinth Bridgerton – The last book you added to your TBR and that you want to read right away

Under the Lupine Moon by A. Knightley is the last book I’ve sent to my best friend saying “we need to read that” and I still stand by that. It comes out in July and I needed it like yesterday.

under the lupine moon

9. Violet Bridgerton – A book you love for the values that it conveys

This is a hard question for me, because I usually don’t read books for their values, but I think Little Women by Louisa May Alcott really portrays a good depiction of how womanhood can encompass very different types of representation, every one beautiful in their own way, so I will use that as an answer.

little women

 10. Lady Danbury – A book with a wonderful story but that it’s not loved by everyone

I simply cannot answer this question, to be honest. I thought about it, but every book will have people who love it and people who didn’t like it, what is underrated to me could be not so underrated for someone else, and so on, so I will skip this one.

 11. Simon Bassett – A book that deals with problems during childhood/adolescence with themes of neglecting/abuse/bullying that I would recommend

I have not read this book, but I’ve seen the movie, and I still think it’s one of the best that deals with these themes, and that’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It’s so delicate and vulnerable, and it always makes me tear up.

the perks of being a wallflower

 12. Penelope Featherington – A book with a wonderful female character that really fascinated me

May be controversial, but she’s still my best girl, so I will say The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. I didn’t love this series, but God if I love Libby Rhodes. I support her rights, and I support her wrongs, I love her to death, that’s just it.

The Atlas Six

Okay guys, this was my take on this tag. I hope you enjoyed it, and please let me know who is your favourite Bridgerton character in the comments down below (and PLEASE don’t spoil season 3, it’s been 48 hours).

Thanks for reading,

The Winter Essentials Book Tag

This lovely tag was created by taylor reads on Youtube (you can find it here), and I decided to do it because it’s quite cold where I live, and it really feels like Winter. In these days I just want to read curled up under a blanket, with a hot beverage on my bedside. So, let’s get started.

  1. Crackling Fire – Who is your favourite cold character who warmed up towards the end?

There is only one answer, and that is Baz from “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell. Baz is simply one of my favourite characters of all time, the complexity Rowell used to depict him simply astonishes me. Baz is a wonderfully layered character, who comes across as cold, but has a heart of gold.

carry on

2. Snowflakes – What is a book that was full of unique characters?

For sure, “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt. The characters are what makes this book so great. They are all so different from each other, in particular Henry is a character that I consider one of a kind, I’ve never read anything like him before or after I read this novel. I still think about him sometimes.

the secret history

3. Gingerbread Family – Which fictional family would you want to be a part of?

The Blackthorn family from “The Dark Artifices” by Cassandra Clare. I just think it’s one of the best families I have ever read about. It is not the happiest family for sure, but the love between them is just so special and I get tears in my eyes when I think about what Julian Blackthorn did for his family.

lady midnight

4. Blizzard – What is a book that had you confused the whole time?

“The 7 and a half deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” by Stuart Turton. I’m not the biggest mystery girl out there, but this book just left me confused, and maybe it was a me thing, but I also think it was a book thing. It is actually too long, in my opinion, and the ending not quite so satisfying after what it put me through the whole time. Personal opinion, of course.

Seven Deaths Evelyn

5. Gift Giving – What is the last book that was gifted to you?

I received a lot of amazing books for Christmas from my wonderful friends, they would be too many to list, I’m that lucky, but just to say some of them, “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven” by Juno Dawson, “The Spanish Love Deception” by Elena Armas and “The Lost Apothecary” by Sarah Penner.

6. Snowball – What is the biggest book you’ve ever read?

I think to this day it still is “Kingdom of Ash” by Sarah J. Maas, but it was so worth it to be honest, it’s one of my favourite last books in a series ever.

kingdom-of-ash-1

7. Wrapping Paper – What is your most beat up book?

I would have to say “The Nowhere Girls” by Amy Reed. I only read it once, but I was drinking hot chocolate while reading it, and it did not end well for the poor book, I’ll be honest.

the nowhere girls

8. Christmas Lights – What is a book you own that has many colours on the cover?

I think “I’ll Give You the Sun” by Jandy Nelson, a wonderful book with a wonderful cover, that I highly recommend.

220px-I'll_Give_You_the_Sun

9. Ice Skating – What is a book that had a plot that was all over the place?

“This is How You Lose the Time War” by Amal El-Mothar and Max Gladstone. It was not at all a bad book, but the plot is convoluted, and sometimes it left you wondering where we are and what we are talking about. I would have liked maybe a bit more pages, so the plot could have been better explained.

this is how you lose the time war

10. Christmas Tree – Who is your favourite character of all time? Yes, you can only choose one.

I don’t even have to think about it one second, it’s Will Herondale from “The Infernal Devices” trilogy by Cassandra Clare. Will for me is a real person, I know it’s crazy, but I grew so attached to this brilliant and complex boy, that I will always think about him as a person I really know, a friend almost. Will is an amazing character, I have never read about anyone that could compare to him after these books.

clockwork angel

11. The Star – What’s a book you look forward to re-reading each year?

I don’t re-read books, almost never, but this year I re-read “Daisy Jones and the Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid in anticipation of the TV Show, and this book held up so freaking well for me. It’s just an amazing novel, one of my favourites of all times, I just think the characters feel so real, the format is really strong, and this story touches my heart every time.

daisy jones and the six

Okay guys, we have come to the end of this tag. Let me know down below some of the answers you would give to these questions, if you want, and I’ll talk to you soon,

The End of the Year Book Tag – 2022 Edition

Hey there guys, here I am with a fun tag that I always like to watch on Youtube, so I decided to do it on our blog. This is the “End of the Year book tag”, and this was created by Ariel from the channel Ariel Bissett. I hope you enjoy it, these are my answers, let’s get started.

1. Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

Sadly, yes, there is a book that I started that, because of a reading slump, I still haven’t finished. I’m so sad because I waited to read this book for years, and I’m talking about “The Essex Serpent” by Sarah Perry. It was not bad at all, but I came from a book I really did not enjoy and I had the feeling that this book was also putting me in a reading slump, and for this reason I decided to stop reading it for the moment.

the essex serpent

2. Do you have a book or autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

If we’re talking about Fall books, I just have the perfect recommendations for you, and that is the book I just finished reading for our book club, I’m talking about “Spells for Forgetting” by Adrienne Young. I will start by saying that if you are a Folklore or Evermore by Taylor Swift stan you’ll love this book. It’s a mystery book with elements of fantasy, and it is on an eerie island. I think it’s the perfect book to read with the cozy vibes of this season.

spells for forgetting

3. Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

Yeah, there is actually. I’m highly anticipating “Queen of Myth and Monsters” by Scarlett St. Clair, the sequel to the Hadrian X Isolde trilogy. I really liked the first one when I read it at the beginning of the year, so I have high hopes for the second one, I can’t wait to dive back into this world, since it features a lot of my favourite tropes ever, I’m not gonna spoil, but let’s just say fate is involved, and also witches. Win win for me.

queen of myth and monsters

4. What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

For sure, like I said previously, “Queen of Myth and Monsters” by Scarlett St. Clair, since it comes out just at the end of the year, and then two romances I’ve wanted to read for a long time. The first is “To Love Jason Thorn” by Ella Maise, a marriage of convenience book that has been really popular on Tiktok, and the other is “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune (I know it’s fall/winter, thanks very much, I’m just in the mood for a friends to lovers, okay? Lol) and I have VERY high expectations for this one in particular.

5. Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

Yes, there is. Like I said I have very high expectations for “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune. I really believe that this novel will feature all of the tropes I really enjoy like childhood friends to lovers and second chance romance. And I heard it’s quite emotional, and I love emotional romance books, so it’s a perfect combination.

every summer after

6. Have you already started making plans for 2023?

Honestly? No, I haven’t. There are a few series I want to catch up with, for example I want to read the last book in the “The Inheritance Games” trilogy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, but other than that, and for the two ARCs that I have for NetGalley, I think I will just go with whatever I will want to read at the moment!

Okay, guys, this was the end of the year book tag. I hope you enjoyed it, and let me know what your plans for the last part of this year are. I would love to know.

Thanks for reading,

The Emoji Book Tag

Hi guys, today I’m here with a fun book tag, and its purpose is to connect a book with the five most used emojis in my phone. I can’t seem to find the original creator, but of course all of the credits go to them.
So without further ado, let’s get into this lovely tag.

😂

This one for me is strongly connected to a book that made me laugh, and what better option than “Carry On” by Rainbow Rowell? It is so funny and cute, and it just matches well with my sense of humour. Also, he doesn’t believe so, but I believe that Baz is the pinnacle of comedy in YA Fantasy. I loved the first and the third book a lot, and I would for sure recommend them.

51PQBMmc5WL

🦾

For this one I decided to choose a book series that I think features a lot of strong female characters and I’m thinking about the “Throne of Glass” one by Sarah J. Maas. The female characters in this one are the strongest ever, they go through so much but nevertheless they persevere and they always give the best of what they can offer to the world. I will forever be bound to these books, no matter what.

throne

I mean. I mean, what can I say? “We had the stars you and I, and this is given once only”. The word “stars” will always make me think about “Call Me By your Name” by André Aciman and the tender love story between our two main characters, Elio and Oliver. It also reminds me of summer nights under the stars in Italy, so I think this is the best fit I could come up with.

call me by your name2

Of course, with this one, I decided to go with a book that in my opinion has a lot of heart. “People We Meet on Vacation” by Emily Henry is my choice for this one, because this book follows two friends who fall in love with each other. The feelings portrayed in this novel span from affection to love, to familial love, and I think it well encompasses this emoji.

People We Meet on Vacation

🛫

Don’t ask why this is one of my most used emojis, I think I could only explain it to you in Italian and I don’t think that’s the case, but, literally, I decided to go with “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight” by Jennifer E. Smith, since this story is for a great part set on a plane. I read this book a few years ago, but I remember really liking it.

the statistical

Okay guys, thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed this article, let me know your most used emojis in a comment, and I’ll talk to you soon,

The Six Tudor Queens Book Tag

Hey there. It’s been a long time since I did a tag, but in these days, I saw that “The Six Tudors Queen” book tag was popular on Booktube, and since I love English history, in particular regarding the monarchy, I couldn’t help but partake in it. Of course, this is a very sad part of English history, but it’s interesting nevertheless, and the media that depict it are some of my favourites of all time, like for example “The Spanish Princess”, and “The Other Boleyn Girl”. The tag was created by Gem of Books on Youtube and I will leave the link here.
So, let’s get started.

Katherine of Aragon – A book that was your first love

I could say a lot of titles for this one, but in the end, I think I’ll go with Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Never ever has a book made me feel that way, and you can tease me about it and make fun of me if you want, but Twilight was the book that pushed me to get to reading more and to become the reader I am now, after all these years. There’s a reason why it was so popular and so well beloved, and a part of it was for sure that it gave us a sense of community and I will forever be grateful to it for that.
Also, Katherine of Aragon is my beloved, if you haven’t, please watch The Spanish Princess, it’s one of my favourite series of the last few years, and it depicts her character so well.

twilight

Anne Boleyn – A manipulative character

Everyone, and I mean everyone in The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake. This was a book I read last year and completely caught me by surprise, but I have to say that, like in every good Dark Academia, these characters are not the best under any circumstances. I mean, they of course have their own perks, but being in a secret society where only five will go through and one of them has to die, you can certainly see that there will be some manipulation going on behind closed doors. But if you like Dark Academia, this is God-Tier and I highly recommend it.

The Atlas Six

Jane Seymour – A book that delivered what you wanted

I will go with a series for this one, and one I read quite recently. The Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa delivered exactly what I wanted. I mean, I just wanted to have fun and read some fantasy romance, which is one of my favourite genres, and this book had exactly all the tropes I expected and that you also would expect in a classic fantasy romance book. If you liked ACOTAR or this kind of fae books, pick up this series, it’s way better than some more popular series that are everywhere right now. Also, the series gets better with each book, so win win.

rhapsodixc

Anne of Cleaves – A book that wasn’t what you expected

Sadly, I have to say My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh. I don’t know what I was expecting to be honest, but for sure not to loathe that novel so much. That was such a shallow depiction of mental health and the 2000s in my opinion, and the prose was so damn annoying and lyrical just for the sake of being lyrical that like, please… no. I don’t want to think about that book ever again in my life. I was just so frustrated while reading it and I just wanted it to end, to be honest.

My year of rest and relaxation

Katherine Howard – A book that irritated you

I could go on and on, I have a lot of unpopular opinions, but for this, I think I’ll go with Wilder Girls by Rory Power. This book just had SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL, and in the end it felt so flat? Like, the audacity? I put so much hope in that book and it ended up betraying me in the worst way by being irritating and boring. I just did not connect at all with it, sadly.

wilder girls

Katherine Parr – A book published after the death of the author

Wow, that’s… a lot of Katherines, I’ve never noticed it. By the way, moving on, after doing some research I decided to go with Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. It was published in 1818, after the death of the writer, and it’s a book I remember with such fond memories. I read it in the Netherlands, the first time I went to Amsterdam, and I had the best time ever reading it. It might not be her best work, but it is such a fun parody of her own works, I always saw it like that, that it’s for sure one of her funnier ones.

northanger abbey

Henry VIII – A chunky book that you hated

I can’t even – so, we were saying. Chunky book I hated? Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I won’t elaborate. It wasn’t fun. Mixed media is not my thing, space is not my thing, unoriginal plots are not my thing. I’m so petty when it comes to that book, I will stop right away.

illuminae

Okay guys, we have come to the end of this bizarre, but for sure fun tag. Let me know some of the answers to these questions if you want to and leave in a comment down below your favourite piece of media related to this history period.
Hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading,

The Elite Book Tag

Hi guys, it happened, I fell into the Elite rabbit hole on Netflix. I’ve watched the first two seasons and I’m obsessed. It’s just so entertaining, so as soon as I saw there was a tag based on the series, I decided to jump into it. The original tag will be linked here, created by the blogger “bookbloggingbooks”.
I can’t wait to associate some books with these characters. Are you ready? Let’s go.

1. Samuel – Pick a book that had the right idea but didn’t have the best execution.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken. I love Greek mythology, I was so glad to dive into it, but sadly I think this did not really work out for me. I found its plot to be boring and not so innovative, such a disappointment.

Lore

2. Carla – Pick a series with a captivating story arc.

The Dark Artifices trilogy by Cassandra Clare. I think it has a storyline that keeps you glued, and it’s the one where I think the plot is the best from the other ones released. The Infernal Devices will always live rent free as the first in my heart, but I feel like TDA has the most captivating plot.

lady midnight

3. Nadia – Pick a book that explored cultural diversity in a really enlightening way.

Everyone (including me) loved Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo for a reason. This magnificent book won so many prizes for a reason and it was so good in depicting the lives of different mostly black and mostly British people. The cultural aspect was very present, and it’s a story that will stay with you for a while.

girl, woman, other

4. GuzmánPick a complicated character that you couldn’t help but love.

Heathcliff, a character in Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. We love to hate him. We love to love him. What is true is that he’s such a complex and interesting character that has haunted millions of readers since forever.

wuthering heights

5. Omar and Ander – Pick a LGBT+ relationship you were rooting for.

I just finished Any Way The Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell, so of course I have to say Baz and Simon for this one. They are the sweetest boys, and they love each other so much. Their story will make you swoon, and you’ll fall in love with them too. My rosebud boys.

any way the wind blows

6. Lu – Pick a book where the “villain” is one of the best (if not the best) character.

I will have to bend this question a bit, but I think I’m going with Henry from The Secret History by Donna Tartt. In this book they are all villains, let’s be honest, and Henry is for me one of the best characters not only from this book but of all times. His intelligence and his ambition make him a mesmerizing and so interesting character to read about.

the secret history

7. Polo – Pick a book/series you had mixed opinions on.

I’ll go with the book You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria. Everyone seems to enjoy this one so much, but I honestly felt like it was an average read for me. Some parts were really cute, but others were so full of miscommunication I honestly could not stand it.

you had me at hiola

8. Marina and Nano – Pick a relationship you knew was doomed from the start.

I’ll just say The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Patroclus and Achilles. I won’t elaborate. If you know, you know.

the song of achilles

9. Christian – Pick a flashy book cover that grabs your attention.

To Have and To Hoax by Martha Waters. I still have not read this book, but the cover really draws me in. And the vibes are immaculate. Regency historical novel with an “ex to lovers” trope? Sign me in.

to have and to hoax

10. Valerio – Pick a character introduced in a sequel that spiced up the series.

Rowan from the Throne of Glass series. He doesn’t come up until the third book but you can be certain that he will do something that will spice up the entirety of the plot. Maas is really good in introducing characters in later books and making them sort of the main characters.

Heir-of-Fire-

Okay, guys, we have come to the end of this book tag. Did you enjoy it? Have you ever watched Elite? Let me know in the comments down below (but please don’t spoil!).
Until next time, happy reading,

The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2021

Hi, guys, can you believe that it’s already June? I cannot believe it, time really flies.
For this reason, I wanted to show you how my reading year is going, and chat with you about all my experiences in these first six months of the year.
This book tag was originally created by Chami and Earl Grey Books on YouTube, and I think it’s really funny to do every year.
Are you ready? Let’s go!

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2021
Without a doubt, 100%, People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry. She’s I think my favourite romance writer of the last years, and this book even surpassed Beach Read in my eyes. This friends to lovers story is just the sweetest and most tender ever and I can’t wait to read more by Henry.

People We Meet on Vacation

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021
Capturing The Devil by Kerri Maniscalco, the fourth and final book in the Stalking Jack The Ripper series. It was so much fun and definitely my favourite in the series. I will miss these characters so much!

Capturing the devil

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Definitely Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I love her latest works, and this one seems just like my cup of tea. I can’t wait to read it as soon as I can, the plot is just so fascinating.

malibu rising

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney. She’s one of my favourite authors, her style is just so mesmerizing and fresh, I think she gets young people so well, and I can’t wait to know more about these new characters and their stories.

beautiful world, where are you

5. Biggest Disappointment
Oh my God, don’t even get me started on Lore by Alexandra Bracken. I really did not like this book, it was so messy. I am a big Greek mythology fan and I had a lot of expectations, but this book was just not it for me. Truly disappointing.

Lore

6. Biggest Surprise
I had expectations for this one, but I really did not expect to love The Binding by Bridget Collins as much as I did. I found out that this book has all of my favourite tropes, the prose was amazing, I immersed myself in the book, I rooted for the characters, and I fell in love with their love. Highly recommended!

The binding

7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
Definitely Bridget Collins. I had never read anything by her, but I was fascinated with her prose and her writing style. I for sure want to read more by her.

The binding

8. Newest fictional crush
Alex from People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry. He’s the sweetest guy ever, and he would do anything for the people he loves. I had a bit of a crush on him while I was reading the book.

People We Meet on Vacation

9. Newest favourite character
Definitely Lucian from The Binding by Bridget Collins. I was mesmerized by his actions, and even though I don’t agree or condone some of them, I loved to read about him and to read his POV.

The binding

10. Book that made you cry
I won’t go into details about how or why, because it could be spoilery but I cried a lot during My Policeman by Bethan Roberts. Some events that take place in this book are very sad and moving, and I can’t wait to see how they will turn them in the movie.
Did I read this because of Harry Styles? Yes, yes I did. But nonetheless it’s a book I would recommend if you, like me, like the “discovering one-self” kind of stories.

my policeman

11. Book that made you happy
I hate to repeat myself so I’ll be brief: People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry. It gave me all the feels, but most of all it made me so happy.

People We Meet on Vacation

12. The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
It still has to arrive to my house, but I will say without a doubt Ariadne by Jennifer Saint. The cover is stunning, and I think the book will be too.

ariadne

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Any way the wind blows by Rainbow Rowell, Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz and Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney. These are definitely my priorities.

14. Favourite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?
I admit I haven’t seen a lot of them this year, but maybe my favourite one so far was Always and Forever, Lara Jean based on the popular book by Jenny Han. It was a sweet conclusion to the trilogy and I appreciated it a lot.

always and forever lara jean

Okay guys, those were my answers. If you want to let me know some of yours in the comment section down below, feel free to do so.
Thank you so much for reading, until next time,

The Spring Has Sprung Book Tag

Hi guys, today I’d like to do a tag, and what better than a Spring vibes book tag? I mean, I can only get vibes, since today in my country it does not feel like Spring at all, but yeah, a girl can dream. Also Spring is my absolute favourite season (minus my allergies) so I thought it would be a great idea to do this tag.
The original was created by The Naughty Librarian on Youtube, if you want to check it out.
So yeah, let’s get started.

1. Flowers: All the flowers we remember are blooming again. Pick a book that’s a fresh take on a retelling.
I think my favourite retelling to this day is Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge. It’s a Beauty and The Beast retelling, and I liked it a lot because it has some of the most classic twists and turns of the original fairytale, but it’s also completely different and it has elements of Greek mythology, too, which for me is always a plus in a book. It’s very dark and mysterious and I really enjoyed it.

cruel beauty

2. Mini Eggs: Obviously the superior springtime candy of choice. Pick a book that you consider to be a sweet treat.
For this one I think I have to go with By The Book by Amanda Sellet. I read an ARC of it last year, and for me it really captures the definition of “warm and fuzzy feelings”. The literary component is adorable, and in addition to first loves, first crushes and wonderful friendships, it makes for a lovely book.

by the book

3. Allergies: Seasonal allergies often make your eyes water. Pick a book that made you cry.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller made me cry. Like a lot. Like in public. In a university classroom. It was not fun. But this book is amazing, one of my favourites of all time. If you like Greek mythology and epic (also romantic) stories, this is for sure the book for you. You will fall in love with it, I can guarantee that.

the song of achilles

4. Spring Cleaning: Out with the old and in with the new. Pick a book to unhaul.
As soon as I can I will unhaul Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I honestly did not like this book, and I have no intention to continue this series, so yeah, I will say goodbye to it very soon.

illuminae

5. Spring Break: It’s the perfect time for an adventure. Pick a book involving a road trip.
How can I not feature Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell? This is the sequel to Carry On and it features our main characters on an amazing road trip through the USA. I did not like this book as much as the first one, but I knew that as soon as I picked it up. Nothing can compare to the first one for me. But it was fun and entertaining and the road trip part was cute and enjoyable.

wayward son

6. Mating Season: It’s that time of the year in the animal kingdom to make some babies. Pick a book with smutty delights.
I seriously love this question oh my God ahahaha. One of the cutest but at the same time smuttiest book I’ve read in the last few months is The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. If you like historical romance, this is the book for you. I really love how Tessa Dare writes love stories, they’re so fun, cute and adorable. This in particular has a bit of Beauty and The Beast vibes, so that’s also something I really enjoyed. Also yeah, smut on point.

the duchess deal

7. Rainbows: Spring is made of rainbows! Pick a book featuring LGBTQ+ character(s).
Let’s change up a bit and instead of always saying the first books that come to my mind, I will go with The Binding by Bridget Collins. I won’t say much because everything could be a spoiler, but just know that I loved this book with all my heart. I didn’t expect to love it so much, but I did. It was absolutely amazing, mesmerizing, and with so much angst. I love angsty books, what can I say?

The binding

8. Spring Awakening: An amazing musical even though it’s filled with completely dysfunctional characters. Pick a book that’s also filled with completely dysfunctional characters.
I mean – is this question about The Secret History by Donna Tartt? Because I feel like it is. That book is honestly amazing, one of my favourites of all times, but the characters in that one are dysfunctional to say the least. You will want to scream at them, but you will also love them a lot, believe me.

the secret history

9. In like a lion, out like a lamb: Pick a book series that didn’t get better as it progressed.
I will go with a classic answer, but it’s just the truth. Freaking The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The first two books were just very good and then? What was that third book? 16-year-old me was pissed. That ending was just not good, guys. We don’t talk about that book in this house, sorry. What a disappointment.

Okay, guys, we have come to the end of this tag. I hope you enjoy, if you want to answer some of these questions feel free to do so in the comments, I would love to hear your opinion.

Do I Own that Book Trope? – Book Tag

Hello guys! Today I’m back with a book tag which was originally created on Booktube by Robbie from And His Nose Stuck in A Book.

It’s quite a long tag, so let’s get started right away!!

1) Love Triangle/Love V – A Book Featuring a Character with Two Love Interests.

I’m not the biggest fan of love triangles to be honest. The first thing that comes to mind is Twilight, but we all knew that Edward was the one. If there’s one book which I feel like used this trope really well is Clockwork Angel and the whole Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare.

2) Enemies to Lovers – A Book Featuring Two Characters That Begin as Enemies & Then It Turns into Love/Lust.

For this one I’m gonna say Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. The enemies part isn’t that long, but the lovers part is just so good! Totally recommend it!

3) The Chosen One – A Book Featuring a Character Destined to Save Everyone/The World.

Carry On by Raibow Rowell! I’m getting kinda bored with the chosen one trope lately, but this book still is one of my favourites.

4) Found Family – A Book Showing Characters Creating a Chosen Family from Friends & Those Closest to Them.

The found family trope is one of my favourites and I could probably do a whole post just talking about books with it.
Is anyone surprised if I answer this question with The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune? This novel gives me all the warm feelings and I cannot wait to do a reread.

5) Grey Morality – A Book Featuring Characters That Don’t Appear Either Good or Bad.

This question’s a bit tricky. At first I was thinking about a dark academia book, but the actions in this kind of books are usually just bad, let’s be real. Maybe Six of Crows is a better fit for this one. The characters of the book do illegal things but I get why they do them and so I wouldn’t say they are bad people.

6) Competitions, Games or Tournaments – A Book Featuring One of These as A Core Element Directly Involving The Characters.

Hands down, The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic. This book revolves around Exy, a game that the characters play in their college varsity team.

7) Sibling Rivalry – A Book That Contains Siblings Pit Against Each Other.

I don’t like books where siblings don’t go along, so it’s quite difficult for me. I think I’ll go with the Lynch brothers from The Raven Boys. Their relationship is quite complicated, but I like how it’s evolving in the new Dreamer trilogy.

8) Revenge Plot – A Book That Contains a Character/Characters Whose Motivation Is Fuelled By Revenge.

I think Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie might be a good fit. If you haven’t read it and you don’t know anything about the story, let’s just leave it at that and let’s just say that this book is about revenge.

9) Here Comes the Cavalry – A Book That Just When Your Protagonist(s) Is Going to Lose Here Comes the Unexpected Help.

I’m going to say Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. There were so many high-stakes moments in this novel and I was on the edge of my seat for some of them.

10) The Dark Lord – A Book Containing a Character Who Appears to Be Doing Evil for Evil Sake.

I wouldn’t say that they do evil things just for evil sake, but to be honest the only novel that comes to mind is Vicious by V.E. Schwab.

11) The Orphaned Protagonist – A Book Featuring a Character Whose Parents Are Either Dead Before or at the Beginning Of A Book.

Again, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune. I’m not really sure about the parents situation in Klune’s books, but I know they’re not in the picture, so that’s why I’m picking it as an answer.

12) The Quest – A Book Featuring the Main Protagonists Going On A Journey For A Particular Goal.

For this one I’m going to say The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh. Shazi doesn’t go on an actual journey, but she goes to the palace with a specific goal in mind, that’s for sure.

13) Friends to Lovers – A Book Featuring Two Characters Who Have A Friend Dynamic Who Eventually Develop A Romance.

Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett is such a good friends-to-lovers story!

14) The Book Loving Character – A Book Featuring a Character Who Loves Reading Books.

One of my favourite books is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Liesel, the main character, is such a book lover!

15) Amnesia – A Book Featuring a Character Normally the Protagonist Who Suffers From Amnesia.

Nothing comes to mind, like NOTHING. I think I’ve never read a book that features amnesia. In a way, it makes sense, I don’t like this trope so that’s probably why.

16) Magic School – A Book Featuring a School Setting of The Magical Variety.

I haven’t read it yet, but I know that A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik features this trope.

17) The Bad Boy Character – A Book Featuring a Character Who Is Bad/Brooding Acting Character Most Commonly Paired With A Sad/Tragic Back Story.

I’m gonna say Warner from the Shatter Me series. He definitely has a tragic backstory and at the beginning of the series he has lots of things to work through.

18) Resurrection – A Book That Features A Character Who You Thought Was Dead, Is Back Back Back Back Again.

Cassandra Clare featured this trope in one of her books. I’m not gonna say which one because it might be a spoiler for some people, but yeah, I remember her using this trope.

19) Redemption Arc – A Book Featuring A Character Who Was Previously a Bad/Evil Character Who Wants To Change.

Let’s go with a Christmas classic and say A Christmas Carol by Dickens!

20) Forbidden Love/Romance – A Book Featuring A Romance That Can’t Work.

A Discovery of Witches features this trope. Matthew is a vampire and Diana is a witch and it seems like everyone has something to say about their relationship.

We’re at the end of the tag, thank you so much for reading! Talk to you soon!

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2020

Hi guys! Since we’re basically at the halfway point of this year, I thought it would be nice to do the mid-year freak out book tag. Let’s hope the rest of 2020 has good things in store for all of us!

This tag was originally created by IsThatChami and EarlGreyBooks. I hope you enjoy it, let’s start!

1.Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

It’s really difficult to choose, so I’m gonna start this tag by kind of cheating and giving you a few answers for this one. Sorry not sorry.
The first book’s definitely The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this story, but I ended up loving it so much. Even though it’s been months since I read it I still find myself thinking about it.
The other book I want to mention is With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo. She’s a writer whose works I always deeply enjoy and I completely fell in love with this story and Emoni, the main character.

2.Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

heartstopper volume 3

I’ve just realized that I haven’t read many sequels this year. So, I’m going to say Heartstopper Volume 3 by Alice Oseman, this comic book series keeps getting better and better with each new volume.

3.New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender. It was released in May and I cannot wait to have this book in my hands. I was already really looking forward to it, but after reading some reviews I’m even more eager to read it.felix ever after

4.Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

I’ve got a few that I’m very looking forward to. They are Loveless by Alice Oseman, The Friend Scheme by Cale Dietrich, Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, Brothersong by T.J. Klune. The release dates of all these books have been pushed one or more times and I just cannot wait to see them released into the world and finally grab a copy, I think I’ve definitely done my fair share of waiting.

5.Biggest disappointment

I’ve got two answers for this one. The first is the last book in the Shatter Me series, Imagine Me by Tahereh Mafi. I wasn’t expecting a five-star read, but I didn’t expect it to be so bad. In my opinion, the novel was full of plot holes and it definitely wasn’t the ending that this series deserved.
The other disappointment is The Fascinators by Andrew Eliopulos. They tricked me by comparing it to The Raven Boys and I fell for it. Jokes aside, I wasn’t really looking for something like The Raven Boys, I just wanted a good book and this was not it. The magic system wasn’t explained and not even useful, a lot of things were left unresolved and the plot left a lot to be desired.

6.Biggest surprise

My biggest surprise was probably Anna K by Jenny Lee. I actually didn’t realize how much I needed a YA retelling of the Russian classic Anna Karenina. If this is something that might interest you, I urge you to give it a chance, it was great! Also, you can read my full review here.

7.Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

K. Ancrum you guys!!! I don’t even know why I waited this long to read The Wicker King when I knew deep in my soul that I was going to love it. Now I just want to read every single thing this author decides to write.

8.New fictional crush

This is a tricky one, I think I still have to find my fictional crush for this year. For now, let’s say that Oliver in Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall is a possible contender. He is the sweetest guy and I just deeply enjoyed his personality.

boyfriend material

9.Newest favourite character

Thomas Lightwood must be protected at all costs and that’s all I have to say about this. Cassandra Clare, please don’t let me down, you know what you have to do to make him happy.

chain of gold

10.Book that made you cry

cerulean sea

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune, that man just makes me cry with his wonderful words and the fuzzy feelings he includes in his novels. They’re my kryptonite.

11.Book that made you happy

date me, bryson keller

Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye. It is the cutest feeling-good book and it has so many sweet moments, if you’re looking for an adorable read this is definitely it. Also, you can check out my full review for this novel here.

12.Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)what we don't talk about

It’s not here with me yet because it’s a pre-order and it’s supposed to come out in a few days, but I’m sure that the right answer for this question is What We Don’t Talk About, a beautiful graphic novel by Charlot Kristensen. The art is gorgeous and I’m really looking forward to reading this story.

13.What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

My TBR is truly endless, as always. But some books I totally want to read are The Regrets by Amy Bonnaffons, The Truants by Kate Weinberg, Something like Gravity by Amber Smith, American Panda by Gloria Cho, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab.

That’s it for today, I hope you enjoyed this tag! How is your reading year going? What was your favourite book so far? And what are you hoping to read in the second half of 2020?

Talk to you soon,
