The Bastille Book Tag

bastille

Since I’m pretty much obsessed and in love with books and Bastille, I’ve decided to find something fun that could put together these two passions of mine. So, when I bumped into this tag I couldn’t help but do it.
To those who may not be acquainted with Bastille, I’ll tell you something about them. They are an indie rock British band formed in 2010. The group’s breakthrough came with the single “Pompei” in 2013, and that’s when they got me.
They’re a bunch of good guys, with great talent, good taste in music and with something really interesting and original to say. If you’d like to, you can check them out here, I assure you won’t regret it! ; )
Now, let’s start with the book tag!

Pompeii – Pick your favorite Dystopian series & Your least favorite Dystopian series.

My current favorite Dystopian series is definitely “Shatter Me” by Tahereh Mafi even though it is not completed yet. Mafi has a unique way of writing that drags you in. Her characters are well identified, and they evolve continuously throughout the books.
My least favorite one is the “Divergent” series by Veronica Roth. I’ve read the first book, but then never read the following ones. I found it a bit too childish for me and, oddly, the movie was more interesting and structured.

30300237

Bad Blood – Pick a book or series everyone liked, but you didn’t.

I’m sorry to say it, but I must admit it. I didn’t really like “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins.
I really love thriller books, but I expect a lot from them: I want to be surprised. So, when I can see the plot twist or the guilty character from miles away, I just don’t like it, it’s no more captivating. And, that’s what happened with this book.

22557272

Things We Lost In The Fire -Pick a book that deals with loss, self-destruction or fire.

When it comes to a book that deals with self-destruction, I can’t help but think about “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Brontë. The relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff is one that leads them to self-destruction for sure. Because of their passionate and strong personalities, burning love and class divisions, it seems that fate transpires to keep them apart and therefore the hopelessness of their situation drives them to their own destruction.

6185.jpg

Of The Night – Pick the scariest book you’ve ever read.

I haven’t read any scary books, but if I have to think about one that scared me then I’d pick “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens. Maybe it’s an odd choice, but the first time I read it I was in primary school and easily frightening by ghosts. Nowadays, it’s one of my favorite tales ever.

24527645

Oblivion – Pick a book that hooked you in immediately.

One of the books that hooked me immediately is “The truth about the Harry Quebert Affair” by Joël Dicker, that also became one of my most beloved novels. Dicker is an amazing author and I find that his writing style is really captivating, gripping and smart. He creates plot twists and stories that leave me breathtaking breathless every time. And in this book, they’re just remarkable!

19301797.jpg

Laura Palmer – Pick a book that makes you feel nostalgic or awkward.

“Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen is the book that always makes me feel nostalgic. This novel was the very first classic that I read and even one of my favorites. I read it when I was 14 years old and made me fall in love with English literature, so I’ll always be grateful to it.

1885

Icarus – Pick a book with a problematic/complicated lead character.

I’m feeling generous and instead of a problematic lead character, I’ll give you two of them: Victor and Eli from the book “Vicious” by V.E.Schwab. These two characters are villains, charismatic, smart and they want to kill each other. Eli can’t be killed, and Victor has a thirst for revenge. How could it be more problematic (and exciting) than that?

Daniel In The Den – Pick a book that deals with betrayal.

The first book (saga, actually) that comes to my mind is “A Game of Thrones”: here you can find betrayals of all kinds! I’ve read the first book and at the end of it there was one of the biggest betrayals of this book series that leads to the death of our beloved protagonist (I know your hearts are still broken as mine).

Overjoyed – Pick a book that made you feel happy and excited.

“Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda” by Becky Albertalli is a book that makes me feel cheerful. Simon is such a cinnamon roll! He’s so sweet and kind: you can’t but root for him!

Flaws – Pick a book or series that you felt was flawed.

“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins is a Dystopian series that I like very much. This trilogy grasped me from the very beginning ‘till the last pages of the last book. It’s captivating, compelling and dark. But, I have to say that the last book was not as good as the previous ones. In my opinion, “Mockingjay” had some flaws regarding the plot and some choices the author made.
